two-ingredient dog treats

ever since we brought lucy home, i’ve been eager to make her homemade dog treats. i quickly purchased dog biscuit cutters from crate & barrel (below) and then stashed them away in the baking drawer. i started looking online for recipes, and a lot of them seemed very labor intensive. why go to all of that work for the dog who licks her butt? 🙂

fast forward to yesterday, lucy turned six months old! it was better occasion as any to make her treats. i found a very simple recipe on pinterest and was eager to try. i also saw this pin, which brought my overly hormonal self to tears. could the dog have looked anymore like my lucy goosey?

this is probably the easiest recipe to make on shoebox. it takes one bowl and you’re done. i can’t personally tell you if they are good or bad, but i can tell you that lucy LOVES them. she loves to eat just about anything, so i wasn’t surprised, but she really does like them a lot. she even took them over to her special spot on the couch for things that she especially loves (i.e. her parsley breath chews, hippo and nylabones.)

2 c whole wheat flour
2 4 oz. jars baby food, any flavor (minus those that contain onion)

preheat oven to 350°.
mix together flour and baby food using a fork to form a stiff dough. add water or flour, as needed, to change consistency of the dough.
on a lightly floured surface, press out dough to be 1/4″ thick. use cookie cutters to cut out shapes, or cut using a pizza cutter into 1″ squares.
line cookie sheet with parchment paper, place treats 1/2″ apart.
prick with a fork. i make “L” monogrammed ones for lucy. i’m fancy like that. 🙂
bake for 20-25 mins. your dog will camp out in front of the oven waiting. ahhhh, peace and quiet.
allow to cool completely and store in a paper bag.
give treat to your pup, and then prepare to be followed around the house for the next half hour.
